La Ultima Fiesta en Taramindo

The most surreal weekend I have ever had. We had a four day weekend and so five girls and I decided to travel to the beach to soak up some rays and convince our families and friends upon our return that we had indeed been in Costa Rica.  We traveled  7 hours to the Province of Guanacaste, in the Pacific side, and ended up in la playa Taramindo, for an extreme sports weekend.

The hostel we stayed in was called “La Botella de Leche” (bottle of milk). It had a pool and an eclectic mix of interesting people; Argentinians, Canadians, Australians, and Us! Two nights the girls and I made delicious meals for ourselves out of fresh fruit, veggies, and fish!

On Saturday we swam and relaxed on the beach and prepared for our afternoon surfing lesson, extreme sport #1. Some of us got the hang of it faster, but by the end we all were riding the waves! To quote our instructors, “were tearing it up!” My rib cage does feel the pain today though from paddling and some wipe outs!

On Sunday we went zip lining through the forest in the mountains. I was super woman, literally I was in a flying position, as I zoomed through the trees. I also enjoyed the position where I flew upside down, dangling above a river. What an adrenaline rush, and rush of blood to my head! Extreme sport #2

Sunday afternoon we took a taxi to a beach called “Playa Conchel” (beach of shells). It was a gorgeous white sands beach with crystal clear blue water. Here we met seven of our friends from ACM and enjoyed being rocked by the waves together.

When we were ready to leave we called our taxi drivers we had met earlier. We thought we were returning to Tarmindo, but they told us they wanted to show us Flamingo, a nearby town and beach. They took us to a cliff in the mountains above the water and we all watched the sunset together. It was beautiful. But initially my dad’s voice ran through my head asking me, “Why are you going to an empty lot on a cliff above the ocean with these two men?” But then I realized I was in Costa Rica, where the Ticos love Americans and want us to love Costa Rica!Extreme sport #3

Indeed, I have fallen in love with Costa Rica and the pura vida and tranquila lifestyle. I definitely went out with a bang (and a tan) this final weekend in Costa Rica. PURA VIDA
